What in Glaven?!?

This last week has been spent quite marvellously at my friend David's holiday house in Bonar Bridge. David, Andrew and myself spent the majority of the time there, but on the first Saturday we had more people up for a party; during which Andrew and myself became horrendously inebriated, drunken archery was played and bread rolls were deployed in hallway based warfare. A very entertaining time was had by all.

After the rest of the folk had vacated the house the rest of the week was mostly spent in front of the telly either playing PS3 or the Gamecube, watching Jerry Springer, and Welsh children getting far more than me (i.e. any...) and working our way through a mountain of recorded media, including Monty Python, Blackadder, RocknRolla and Spaced.

On Wednesday we began putting ideas together for a sketch show we hope to record during the summer with some other acting type friends of ours. As well as writing out full scripts and snippets of dialogue and jokes I was unleashed alongside David's guitar and Andy's piano playing to write some musical numbers to go with the show...

Several improvised pieces later, covering a spectrum of topics as far apart as Grocery Shopping and B.D.S.M., I was able to come to the conclusion that I am a disgraceful little man and should not be allowed to come into contact with any recording device. Regardless, we have these written and recorded and will show them to other participants soon enough.

As a small parting notice, Lord Flasheart is a fantastic creation XD

"What d'you think we are? Gangsters?"

Just back in from a night out with the lads around town. Having been all over we eventually ended up in S&J where, halfway through a JD and Coke I was phoned by my dad which meant I had to go outside to take it. I was told to get myself home as, apparently,  "the house is not a hotel to return to at any ridiculous time". Returning to the door of S&J I was refused entry as it was past curfew...being only 11:58 I was thoroughly annoyed, as this was the first time I've missed a curfew. So I had to phone in to get Craig to bring out my coat and then off I trundled home.

Ranting at obnoxious bouncers aside, the perhaps main purpose of this blog post is to discuss the wonders of the film RocknRolla. After being pestered for ages by Andy to watch it I finally purchased it at Tesco for £3 and set about watching it last night. Guy Ritchie really is a master; weaving together another story of crime, deceit, confusion of circumstances and fantastic geezer banter. It stands firm alongside his other two major films - Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch - as a fine piece of work. With its blend of action, dark humour and pop culture references it really is a fantastic film, and shows just why Ritchie is regarded as such a wonderful directing force.

"I'm dead Pete. Dead people don't like company."

Unfortunately, due to the film's low profit the sequel that is mentioned at the end of film is not going to be made any time soon. Which is a real shame, as this first instalment really set the bar for an epic second episode, with the "rocknrolla" in question, Johnny Quid, having cleaned up his life and ready to follow his uncle into the "gangster underworld" to become a "real" rocknrolla.

And, as a small side note, seeing you today was like a kick in the stomach...

"That really was a Hanzo Sword"

I can't believe it's taken this long, but I finally watched Kill Bill Volume 1. Having only recently gotten into Tarantino's films -within the last year- I've enjoyed the likes of Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs and Inglourious Basterds massively. Browsing HMV one day I thought I'd take advantage of their Miramax 2 for £10 deal and bought myself Kill Bill Volume 1&2...this being about 2 months ago. What with college work and people dragging me off to do things I had not had the time to indulge myself with the viewing of these yet. So tonight, with 3 months of summer holidays lying before me, I felt the time had to come to crack open the first volume and discover exactly what it is I'm supposed to be missing.

And Good Christ! Quentin you dog, how do you do it? Simply a spectacular film in so many degrees; from the beautiful art style, to the breathtaking fight scenes, to the uniformly snappy dialogue, it is every bit classic Tarantino, and just classic film making in itself. Films like this are what turned Tarantino into my favourite director, with his fantastic, stylistic film making creating a fantastic viewing experience.

For all those who have not yet found an avenue into this man's work then I strongly recommend that you correct this as soon as possible. For me his most accomplished film is Pulp Fiction, but really any member of his filmography is very worth a watch...except apparently Death Race, which I'm told really doesn't live up to his simply brilliant standards.

So yes, to sum up my overall point, Quentin Tarantino is a film making genius, and Kill Bill adds simply another rung to his impressive ladder of achievements.

Well here we are...

...after stumbling upon a friend's blog I thought I'd check up on my old one, this one in fact, and after 45 minutes of attempting to use it I realised it was a fruitless effort and made this new one. Yeah, cheers for that Blogspot...

But anyways, I pretty much made this account to comment on her post regarding Belladrum. Belladrum being a most epic music festival found here in the Highlands of Scotland, and one which is pretty much the friendliest gathering of people I've ever seen. She, being a festival newcomer, is in for a definite treat =D

And now to end with a photo, if not only to show my ninja skills, but to portray the ridiculous length of time between that first blog post and now....
